Why people do the things they do is a question people have been asking since the beginning of time. However, psychology first appeared in the 1870s. Psychology isn’t just an academic subject, its all around us. People use the principles of psychology everyday. For example, television commercials rely on psychology to persuade people to purchase the advertised product. Psychologists usually treat patients with a mental or emotional problem, but they also serve as scientists researching human behavior. They study how humans relate to each other, and work to improve these relationships. Psychologist especially concentrates on behaviors that affect the mental and emotional health of healthy human beings. Psychologists usually accommodate clients and set up evening and weekend hours. Most psychologists working in clinics, government, indu stry, or schools work full time schedules during regular business hours. When choosing to go into the field of psychology, there are a variety of options. Depending on one’s geographic location and the area in which you choose to work. For example, for those who wish to provide psychological services to the public must have a doctoral degree in many parts of the United States. Those who have a bachelors degree may work as high school psychology teachers, an assistant in a rehabilitation center, employment counselors, correction counselor trainees, interviewers, personnel analysts, probation officers and writers. Graduates with a masters degree may maintain jobs, including psychological counselors, or handle research and data collection and analysis in universities, government and private companies. Other careers are in health, industry, education, community mental health centers and industry. (A doctoral degree is the most standard and highest paid degree one can get. With the wide range of careers available including: health, clinical, counselin g, school, industrial and educational psychology.
